Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that he will not be contesting for any political office in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai made this known on Wednesday in Kaduna while receiving a group of youths who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), under the leadership of Aliyu Bello.
He explained that his renewed participation in politics was not for personal ambition but to support credible leadership that could bring positive change to Nigeria.
“This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors,” El-Rufai said.
The former governor added that although he had initially planned to retire from partisan politics after leaving office, the realities of Nigeria’s current challenges compelled him to return.
His focus now, he said, is on mentoring young people, women, and reform-driven citizens to play active roles in governance.
He further urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to register and participate actively in the electoral process, stressing that voter participation is essential for meaningful political change.
