The University of Ilorin Sociology Class of 1999 is gearing up for a grand celebration of its 25th anniversary, tagged “Mega Reunion.”

As part of the build-up to the milestone, the alumni recently held a lively pre-event get-together at the Unilorin Liaison Office, Palmgrove, Lagos.

The gathering, filled with love, laughter, and gratitude, saw many ex-  classmates reconnect for the first time since graduation, sharing memories of their school days alongside personal and professional experiences since leaving the university.

Founded in 1975 with the enduring slogan “Better by Far,” the University of Ilorin has continued to grow in stature and influence, producing graduates who are making an impact across diverse fields. The Sociology Class of ’99 has been no exception.

Speaking at the pre-event, the class president, Mr. Sola Peters Akinlade, explained that the reunion was conceived not only to rekindle old friendships but also to consolidate the spirit of giving back to the institution that shaped them.

He revealed that the group had already created a WhatsApp platform where members regularly interact, and that their bond has translated into meaningful contributions to their alma mater. These include awarding scholarships to brilliant students and donating photocopiers and printers to the Department of Sociology.

“Our essence as a group is not just about celebrating ourselves,” Peters emphasized. “It’s also about giving back to the department and the university that gave us the foundation for who we are today.”

The much-anticipated grand finale of the silver jubilee celebrations will hold at the Bako Omogiafo Hall, Bade Ojajuni Street, Ijede Road, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Alumni and guests are expected to gather in large numbers for what promises to be a memorable evening of companionship, reflection, and renewed commitment to the UNILORIN legacy.

The event will kick start by 12pm Nigerian time and it’s open to all graduates of Sociology and the institution.
