How I rejected Peter Obi’s bribe – Deji Adeyanju
Human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has opened up on how he turned down an alleged cash bribe from Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Adeyanju made the revelation on Friday during a live interview on Channels Television while reacting to Obi’s threat to sue him for defamation.
According to him, Obi allegedly tried to offer him money during a private meeting in the build-up to the polls.
“Yes, in the wake of the 2023 election, Obi persistently sought to meet me. When we finally met, after I had raised issues about corruption allegations and misuse of state resources, he tried to hand me an envelope, saying it was just a small token. I rejected it immediately,” Adeyanju claimed.
He further explained that his excitement over Obi’s candidacy was never about partisan support but about the need for opposition unity. However, he said Obi’s defense of past corruption allegations and alleged investments in family businesses left him “completely disgusted.”
Adeyanju said he walked away from the meeting, insisting that his activism was based on conviction, not personal gain.
The disclosure comes after Obi, through his lawyer Alex Ejesieme (SAN), served Adeyanju a letter of demand over alleged defamatory statements on social media.
Obi’s legal team accused the activist of persistently posting false and malicious claims designed to paint him as corrupt and intolerant.
