This injury compounds Chelsea’s striker woes, as the club had already lost Christopher Nkunku to a £36m permanent transfer to AC Milan within the past 24 hours, leaving only the in-form João Pedro, with five goals in five starts, as their available senior striker.

Chelsea have abruptly halted Nicolas Jackson’s loan move to Bayern Munich, ordering the 24-year-old striker to return to London after he travelled to Germany for a medical.

The decision follows a dramatic turn of events at Stamford Bridge, where a serious injury to striker Liam Delap during Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday has left the club critically short of attacking options.

Sources informed BBC Sport that Jackson is frustrated with the collapse of his proposed £13m loan deal to Bayern Munich, and efforts are underway to potentially revive negotiations.

The sudden U-turn came after Delap suffered a suspected hamstring injury, which manager Enzo Maresca estimated could sideline him for “six to eight weeks.”

The whirlwind sequence of events has transformed Chelsea’s attacking depth from four strikers to just one in a single day.

Jackson, who had flown to Munich to finalize his loan move, was informed of the club’s decision to revoke permission for his medical.

Speaking to BBC Sport post-match, Maresca expressed uncertainty about the situation, stating, “I just finished the game, came here and have no idea. We’re going to sit now and we’ll see. When you have two strikers, it’s enough. When one of them is injured for different weeks, probably it’s not enough.”

Former Premier League defender Stephen Warnock, speaking on BBC’s Final Score, offered perspective on Jackson’s predicament: “From Chelsea’s point of view, it’s understandable. But for the player, it’s tough. You’re in Munich, feeling wanted, your confidence is high, and then you’re called back to a club that seemed ready to let you go. This is Jackson’s chance to rewrite his story at Chelsea. He could become the star, especially with their potential to win major trophies this season. It’s about his mindset now.”
