Chelsea secured a convincing 2-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, delivering a performance marked by resilience, precision and decisive intervention from VAR.
The visitors thought they had struck first in the 22nd minute when Joshua King produced a brilliant solo run before firing a low strike into the bottom corner.
However, their celebrations were short-lived. After a lengthy VAR review, referee Robert Jones disallowed the goal, ruling that a foul had occurred in the build-up, much to the frustration of the Fulham players.
Chelsea capitalised on the reprieve deep into first-half stoppage time. In the ninth added minute, João Pedro rose highest to meet a well-delivered corner, powering a header into the right-hand corner to give the Blues a 1-0 lead at the break.
The second half quickly turned further in Chelsea’s favour. Just six minutes after the restart, controversy struck again when Fulham were penalised for handball inside the box following another VAR review.
Enzo Fernández stepped up with composure, striking his penalty straight down the middle to outwit Bernd Leno and double Chelsea’s advantage.
Teenage sensation Estêvão nearly added a third with a dazzling solo run in the 59th minute, only to be denied by a superb save from Leno.
Pedro later tried his luck again from distance in the 86th minute, but the Fulham goalkeeper comfortably dealt with the effort.
In the end, Chelsea’s blend of attacking flair, defensive stability and clinical finishing ensured a well-earned 2-0 victory.
