Former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase  has died a the age of 69, his family confirmed on Sunday in a statement.

Arase died on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Cedercrest Hospital in Abuja following a brief illness, according to the statement released by his son, Solomon Arase Jr.

The statement  read, “We announce the passage of Solomon Ehigiator Arase, former Inspector-General of Police, who passed away at approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Cedercrest Hospital, Abuja, after a short illness.”

Born in 1956 in Benin City, Edo State, Solomon Arase had a distinguished career in law enforcement, rising through the ranks to become the 18th Inspector-General of Police, serving from 2015 to 2016.

Known for his commitment to police reform and community-oriented policing, Arase implemented initiatives aimed at improving the professionalism and accountability of the Nigeria Police Force during his tenure.

His leadership was marked by efforts to strengthen internal security and enhance public trust in law enforcement.

After retiring from the police force, Arase continued to serve the nation in significant capacities. He was appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission, where he played a pivotal role in overseeing police recruitment, discipline, and promotions.

Additionally, as a member of the Body of Benchers, he contributed to the regulation of the legal profession in Nigeria, showcasing his versatility and dedication to public service.

The family described him as a man who served Nigeria with distinction, leaving a lasting legacy in both the security and legal sectors.

They expressed their grief and requested prayers and support from friends, associates, and well-wishers during this challenging time. Details of funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.
