According to reports aggregated by msn/Tuko, the victim, Rhoda was discovered brutally attacked where the suspect, Edward works as an accountant at Horizon Company.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Edward allegedly used a metal bar to inflict a deep cut on Rhoda’s head.
According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, the suspect left the young woman with multiple leg injuries and bruises across her body.
TV Yatu reports that the incident was reported to the police around 5 am by the victim’s father, Terry Munkombwe.
Police say Edward had been living alone since August 5, after chasing away his wife over allegations of misusing rent money.
On August 28, at around 7 pm, Edward was seen entering his home with a woman later identified as Rhoda.
His landlord, Moonga Ngobeka, told police that he heard disturbing noises from the house at about 11:30 pm.
When he asked Edward to open the door, he claimed he had misplaced the keys.
Suspicious, Ngobeka used a spare key to enter the house, only to find Rhoda lying unconscious in a pool of blood near the doorway.
Ngobeka immediately called an ambulance, which rushed the victim to Chipata Central Hospital, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
When the landlord returned from the hospital, he found the suspect mopping blood in the sitting room.
“Alarmed by the scene, he alerted police, who rushed to the house and managed to apprehend Edward as he allegedly attempted to flee,” Mweemba said.
Police officers later found the house in disarray, with bloodstains in the sitting room, bathroom, and bedroom.
The suspect has been taken into custody and is assisting police with investigations, while the body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination.
