The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a skincare facility in Agege, Lagos, over the production of what it described as dangerous cosmetic products.
Officials who stormed the premises at the weekend said the products were being made in substandard conditions and sold to unsuspecting members of the public as safe and “organic.”
The company, with a huge following on Instagram, reportedly churned out several bleaching and whitening creams that were never registered with the agency. Among the items seized were scrubs, soaps, and other skin-lightening products carrying fancy names but allegedly containing harmful ingredients.
NAFDAC, in a statement posted on its X handle on Sunday, warned that tests showed some of the seized items had unsafe levels of banned substances that could cause serious health complications.
The agency further urged Nigerians to be cautious when buying cosmetic products, stressing that many so-called “organic” brands hide behind deceptive packaging to push dangerous formulations into the market.
