AAUA Ondo State, have been brought to a halt as lecturers under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), AAUA branch, declared an indefinite strike.
Academic activities at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, have been brought to a halt as lecturers under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), AAUA branch, declared an indefinite strike.
The lecturers said they could no longer continue working without pay, accusing the Ondo State Government of failing to settle outstanding salaries and arrears.
The development was confirmed in a memo issued by the branch chairman of ASUU, Dr. Boluwaji Oshodi, and addressed to the university management on Sunday.
According to the memo, the strike resolution was adopted at the union’s congress held on August 21, following what members described as continued neglect of their welfare.
“By this notice, our members have been directed to suspend all academic activities until all outstanding salaries and arrears are fully paid,” the statement declared.
When contacted, Oshodi told newsmen that lecturers were being owed two months’ salaries, stressing that several efforts to draw the attention of the state government had yielded no result.
“We made several efforts by contacting the university management and even wrote to the state government. The governor made promises, which we trusted, but nothing has changed,” he said.
He accused the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of paying lip service to the plight of workers in the institution.
