The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Miss Ruth Otabor, the young lady who was critically injured in the tragic crash involving a Dangote truck and a commercial motorcycle near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
Otabor, who sustained severe injuries in the August 11 accident, was confirmed dead despite medical efforts to save her life.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, in a statement on behalf of the FRSC, commiserated with the deceased’s family, the Students Union, and the Auchi Polytechnic community. He prayed for the repose of her soul while describing the incident as “highly regrettable.”
But beyond the condolences, the Corps insists it is taking concrete steps to prevent another tragedy of this nature. Following the crash, the FRSC convened a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to address their grievances and outline ongoing safety interventions.
The Corps has also intensified engagement with major fleet operators, including Dangote Group, BUA and other heavy truck companies, rolling out stricter training and recertification programmes for their drivers.
“The Corps remains fully committed to creating safer roads for all Nigerians. This sad incident is a reminder of why collective responsibility is crucial,” the statement noted.
FRSC further assured the public that enforcement and advocacy efforts will be doubled, stressing that the Auchi crash has reinforced its determination to hold reckless truck drivers accountable.
The Corps, once again, extended condolences to the bereaved family, pledging that it will not relent in safeguarding lives on Nigerian highways.
