Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has clarified that the recent dissolution of his cabinet was not a punitive measure but a mid-term performance review aimed at repositioning his administration for greater impact.

Speaking to journalists after a valedictory State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Minna, Bago said the decision was informed by an assessment of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set under his “New Niger Agenda.”

According to him, while some commissioners had surpassed expectations, others fell short or were found to possess strengths better suited for different roles.

He noted that the cabinet reshuffle would enable his administration to channel expertise more effectively, drive growth, and deliver on its development promises.

The governor confirmed that some former commissioners would be reappointed, while others would take on new portfolios within government.

“I deeply appreciate the collective contributions of my team. They have all done well, but this review is necessary to sustain momentum and align with our mission,” Bago said.

Earlier, the governor had announced the dissolution of his cabinet, retaining only key principal officers, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and a few others.
