Former England international, Dele Alli, is back on the free market after his contract with Italian club Como was terminated with immediate effect.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who joined Como in January on an 18-month deal, barely had time to unpack before his Italian dream turned into a nightmare. His only outing came in March, when he was thrown on as an 81st-minute substitute — only to get himself sent off in stoppage time for a reckless challenge on AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
That proved to be his first and last act in Como colours. Manager Cesc Fabregas clearly had no plans for Alli in the new season, and the club wasted no time cutting ties.
A statement from the Serie A outfit confirmed: “Como and Dele Alli have agreed to a mutual termination of his contract. Dele is keen to secure regular playing opportunities and, as he was not part of the club’s immediate plans, both parties felt it was the right decision to part ways.”
It’s another low point in what has become a tragic fall from grace for the former Tottenham star, who once lit up the Premier League and played a key role in England’s run to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals.
