Alexander Isak has waved an emotional farewell to Newcastle United after sealing his British-record £125m transfer to Liverpool, but fans are fuming over the Magpies’ “ice-cold” send-off.

The 25-year-old striker, who delivered Newcastle’s first domestic trophy in 70 years when he scored in their Carabao Cup final win against Liverpool, took to Instagram to pen a touching message to supporters.

“I want to express my gratitude to my team-mates, the staff, and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together,” Isak wrote. “Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle.”

But while Isak poured out his heart, Newcastle responded with what fans are calling the “shortest and coldest goodbye ever” — a 37-word statement confirming his departure.

The contrast has sparked a storm on social media, with some Magpies supporters accusing the club of disrespecting a player who dragged them into the Champions League and ended decades of trophy drought.

Others argue the club is right to keep things brief after Isak openly declared he wanted to leave this summer.
