The Lagos State Government has announced the resumption of the second phase of repair works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, inbound Island, beginning Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

According to the government, the new phase follows a comprehensive review of the traffic management plan, aimed at easing congestion and ensuring timely completion of the works.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the earlier phase of repairs had presented challenges with traffic flow, prompting adjustments to minimise inconvenience.

“The reviewed traffic management plan has been designed to strengthen coordination along the corridor during the resumption of works,” he explained.

“We appeal to motorists to cooperate with Traffic Management Officers, maintain lane discipline, and make use of the provided alternative routes,” he said.

Under the revised plan, traffic will generally remain free-flowing for vehicles inbound Oshodi and Victoria Island from the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Lagos Toll Gate. However, motorists approaching the repair zone on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge will be diverted into one lane of the three-lane carriageway about 50 metres before the site and will regain full access 50 metres afterwards.

Those heading towards Oshodi are advised to use the Ojota Slip Road to connect to Ikorodu Road inward Anthony, by the Taxi Park, while motorists travelling to Victoria Island may use the Ojota Slip Road to link Ikorodu Road inward Anthony by Town Planning Way, then proceed to Gbagada for access to the Third Mainland Bridge. Alternatively, they may continue along Ikorodu Road towards Funsho Williams Avenue to connect Eko Bridge.

For motorists from Ikeja and neighbouring areas, the advisory suggests proceeding through Maryland to connect Ikorodu Road or Funsho Williams Avenue and continue via Eko Bridge to Outer Marina. They may also connect Ikorodu Road by Taxi Park, Anthony, to access Oshodi directly.

Osiyemi urged road users to exercise patience and cooperate with officials on duty, stressing that the partial closure was a necessary part of the bridge’s maintenance programme.

“Motorists are therefore urged to be patient and bear with the temporary inconvenience in the interest of improved road infrastructure,” he said.

He said the government remained committed to upgrading its road network while ensuring that traffic disruption during repair works is reduced to the barest minimum.
