Police in Lagos have arrested six suspected land speculators at Ateke village, Ikorodu, Lagos for allegedly conniving to attempt to forcefully take over a landed property at Ateke village which is in possession of Ateke family.

Police identified the defendants as Durojaiye Okiki, 21; Sodiq Oreniyi, 35; Oladele Bojuwoye, 42; Bashiru Lukmon, 33; Ifatoki Ilesanmi, 21, and Opeyemi Tijani.

Police alleged that the defendants on 19 March 2025 led thugs to the complainant’s landed property to take over and maliciously damaged the perimeter fence and buildings.

The Police also accused the defendants of being armed with guns and other dangerous weapons and forcefully dispossessed Nigeria drug Law enforcement agency (NDLEA) officers of one Lar riffle with breach No.167045, one SMG raffle with breach No 11743 at Aleke Village.

They were also accused of carting away some building materials valued at N35m.

The defendants were said to have threatened to kill the villagers and take over the landed property at Ateke village.

After investigation by Inspector Olalekan Olayiwola and his team, the defendants were dragged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on Lagos Island on a seven-count charge bordering on forceful entry, encroachment, threat to lives and stealing of property.

Police prosecutor, Ibrahim Haruna, told the Court in the charge marked A/92/2025 that the defendants committed the offence on March 19, 2025, at the Village.

He said the offences, the defendants committed were punishable under sections 411, 168(d), 52, 350, 297(2)(a)(b) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, O. O Olatunji ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ikoyi correctional facility and adjourned the case.
