A chilling domestic tragedy has rocked Delta State after a 21-year-old woman fatally stabbed her 34-year-old partner, with whom she had been cohabiting since the age of 17.
The incident, revealed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has sparked widespread debate on early cohabitation, parental responsibility, and societal failures.
“She has two children for him. If she’s 21 now, it means she started living with this guy since she was 17,” Edafe stated in a post on his verified handle, X (formerly Twitter).
According to Edafe, the young woman allegedly stabbed the man in the heart during a heated quarrel, leading to his death.
“Now they had a fight, she stabbed the guy in the heart and killed him. Who do you blame? The girl, the society or her parent who couldn’t raise her and gave her out at 17 without a bride price?” He asked.
The case has triggered emotional reactions online, with many Nigerians split over where the blame lies—between the suspect’s actions, the man’s decision to take in a minor, or the parents who allegedly gave her away prematurely.
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect remains in custody.
