Toke Makinwa breaks silence on marital struggles

Nigerian media personality and influencer Toke Makinwa, has opened up on her past marriage and the misconceptions that came with her separation.

While speaking with Chude Jideonwo, Toke revealed that she found it hard to deal with private issues when the marriage was undergoing public scrutiny.

She also spoke on the judgement she received from the public after deciding to leave the marriage.

“People like to say it must not have been that bad because you didn’t die. But if someone comes back 10 mins stronger, it unsettles others. Instead of learning from it, they see your strength as a threat. Until you have walked in my shoes, don’t comment on it,” she said.

Toke also revealed that she might have considered staying in the marriage if it was not so public. She however, noted that the relationship was unhealthy for her.

“Maybe I could have stayed if it wasn’t so public. But the way I loved this person would have been dangerous for me. If I stayed, how I felt would have consumed my entire life,” she added.
