Boxing fans are in for a surprise as two of the sport’s biggest names, Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are set to face off in an exhibition bout next year.

Promoters CSI Sports/Fight Sports confirmed the blockbuster, though the date, venue, rules, and broadcast details are yet to be announced.

Tyson, 59, is a former undisputed heavyweight champion with 50 wins from 59 fights. He last fought in November, ending a 19-year retirement in a controversial loss to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

Mayweather, 48, retired unbeaten in 2017 after 50 fights, winning titles across five weight classes. Since then, he has taken part in multiple exhibitions, the last against John Gotti III in 2024.

“This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen,” Tyson said. “Boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable.”

Mayweather added: “You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and legendary. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”

Formal winners will not be declared since the clash is an exhibition, meaning it won’t affect either man’s career record.

But while fans debate whether this is truly boxing or just business, one thing is certain — Tyson v Mayweather will draw global attention.
