Team Lagos have emerged overall winners of the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, after topping the medals table with an impressive haul as the curtain falls on the competition today.
The Lagos contingent finished the Games in commanding style, amassing 49 gold, 30 silver and 24 bronze medals, to cement their dominance making it a total of 103.

The closing ceremony, which also features finals in the boys’ and girls’ 4×100 metres relay as well as the 4×400 metres mixed relay, brings an end to the weeklong sporting festival that has showcased Nigeria’s brightest young talents.
Among the standout stars was 13-year-old Faith Chukwuma of Delta State, who lit up the athletics track by winning the girls’ 200 metres.
She also claimed silver in the 100 metres and contributed to three relay golds for her state. Fighting back tears of joy, Chukwuma expressed gratitude to her coach, teammates, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and her mother for their support.
With Team Lagos crowned champions, the 9th National Youth Games will be remembered for its thrilling contests, inspiring performances, and a renewed hope for Nigeria’s future in sports.
The victory marks a historic moment for Lagos, whose athletes have once again proven their resilience and talent, and the state government has promised to build on this success by investing further in grassroots sports development ahead of future national and international competitions.
