Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana, may be heading out of Old Trafford as he considers a loan switch to Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Onana, 29, had been linked with Galatasaray earlier in the window, but the Istanbul giants opted for Turkey’s World Cup qualifier hero, Ugurcan Cakir, in a €36m deal from Trabzonspor.
With Cakir gone, Trabzonspor turned attention to Onana, believing the Cameroonian shot-stopper could make an instant impact. The Turkish transfer window remains open until September 12, giving both parties time to strike a deal.
Onana is currently on international duty with Cameroon, but his Old Trafford future has been under scrutiny for months. He lost his starting spot after a series of high-profile errors last season and has since slipped down Ruben Amorim’s pecking order.
United recently signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, adding to the competition between Onana, Altay Bayindir, and veteran Tom Heaton. While club officials initially suggested they were comfortable with four senior goalkeepers, Amorim has made clear he wants a leaner squad, especially with no European football this season.
Onana’s last major outing was the shock EFL Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby, where he was at fault for a goal in the 2-0 loss.
Signed from Inter Milan in 2023 for £47.2m under Erik ten Hag, Onana was supposed to be United’s long-term answer in goal after David De Gea’s exit. Instead, his time at Old Trafford has been marked by inconsistency and criticism.
