President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to Owelle Gilbert Chikelu as he marked his 95th birthday on Saturday, 6 September.
In a heartfelt message, the President described Owelle’s 95-year journey as one filled with “profound testimonies, impact on humanity, and selfless service to our beloved country.”
“Your life and work in both the public and private sectors have consistently reflected excellence, integrity, and service to humanity,” Tinubu stated.
The President also expressed gratitude to his long-time friend for his numerous contributions to Nigeria’s progress, adding that he epitomised the true essence of public service through his promotion of peace, stability, and national development.
“Many of the initiatives introduced during your stewardship continue to shape and inspire improved service delivery to this day,” he noted.
Tinubu further remarked that it was fitting for Owelle’s 95th birthday to coincide with the public presentation of his biography, Owelle: The GPO Chikelu Story, authored by historian and archivist Nze Ed Keazor.
He described the book as “a valuable gift to the nation, offering timeless lessons on integrity, accountability, and patriotism.”
“It is my earnest prayer that your story will continue to serve as a beacon for all who aspire to serve with honour, responsibility, and accountability,” the President added.
Concluding his tribute, Tinubu extended warm wishes to the celebrant: “Happy 95th birthday to the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), Owelle of Ichida, Owelle of Anaocha, and Knight of St. Paul, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).”
