Abdulsalam Yusuf, a six-year-old boy from Kwara state on Friday won gold in Scrabble competition to become the youngest gold medalist of the National Youth Games, Asaba 2025.
Yusuf, alongside his teammate, Olamide Hassan, clinched the medal in the male doubles event after defeating Team Niger.
Their victory has been described as historic, as Yusuf is now one of the youngest medal winners in the history of the Games.
Speaking after the medal presentation, Yusuf said his achievement was the result of hard work, focus, and passion for the game. .
He noted that Scrabble helps him develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills, adding that he looks forward to representing Kwara and Nigeria at higher levels.
The young champion also thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Mogaji, for giving him and other young athletes the platform to showcase their talents.
