The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has warned retirees and the public to steer clear of a fraudulent WhatsApp group parading as its official platform.

In a statement on Monday, the board’s Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Mohammed, said the group created by unknown individuals  does not represent the MPB and is being used by scammers to deceive unsuspecting pensioners.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the MPB communicates with pensioners and stakeholders strictly through its official social media handles, press releases, and recognized communication channels,” Mohammed stated.

He stressed that the welfare of retired personnel remained the board’s top priority, urging them to verify any information through official contacts before engaging.

In recent times, fraudsters have exploited social media and messaging apps to impersonate government institutions, often preying on vulnerable retirees with false promises and scams.

The MPB reiterated that it has no WhatsApp group for pensioners or veterans, describing the platform as the handiwork of criminal elements.
