The monarch urged all sons and daughters of Benin Kingdom, including those in the diaspora, as well as non-indigenes living in Edo, to participate in the exercise.

The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, CFR, has called on indigenes and residents of Edo State to observe a two-week fasting and prayer session from 15 to 28 September 2025.

According to a statement from the palace, the spiritual exercise aligns with the age-long Benin tradition of seeking divine favour and protection before the annual new yam festival.

The fasting period, to be observed daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., is expected to unite the people in prayers for a bountiful harvest, protection from sudden death, and enduring peace across families, communities, and the nation.

The Oba of Benin urged all sons and daughters of Benin Kingdom, including those in the diaspora, as well as non-indigenes living in Edo, to participate in the exercise.

He stressed that the collective prayers would not only strengthen cultural values but also foster unity, prosperity, and spiritual renewal.

“The Omo N’Oba prays to God Almighty to grant us peace and happiness as we embark on this fasting and prayer,” the statement read, reaffirming the monarch’s commitment to blending traditional rites with shared spiritual responsibility.

The directive underscores the role of the Benin monarchy as both cultural custodian and moral compass, with the new yam period serving as a reminder of the community’s reliance on divine providence for sustenance and harmony.
