President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security operations in the wake of the deadly terrorist attack that killed several civilians and soldiers in Darajamal, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
The President’s directive includes the deployment of advanced military hardware, surveillance technology, and a renewed strategic approach to eliminate terrorist groups operating across the country.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, in a statement issued by his spokesperson Stanley Nkwocha, extended deep condolences to the government and people of Borno State. He emphasized that the recent killings are a national tragedy, while reaffirming the administration’s commitment to strengthening the Armed Forces.
“The President has directed security agencies to intensify efforts, review ongoing operations, and ensure that justice is served for the victims,” the Vice President said.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum had earlier visited the community of Darajamal on Saturday to commiserate with families of the victims following the Friday night ambush by Boko Haram insurgents.
Describing the incident as a “profound loss,” Shettima expressed confidence in the military’s capability to overcome the insurgency, noting that President Tinubu had already approved the procurement of more surveillance drones and other critical assets to bolster security.
He also confirmed that the Federal Government is actively considering the creation of state police forces. According to the Vice President, localized security units could provide more effective responses in areas with unique terrain and cultural contexts.
Shettima assured the Borno State government and affected communities of ongoing federal support in the fight against terrorism, offering prayers and condolences to the bereaved.
