Some dispatch riders in Delta State have abandoned courier services for drug runs, police have revealed.
State PRO, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed on Tuesday that intelligence reports showed the riders were secretly transporting cannabis and other hard drugs for a syndicate of young women.
The girls, aged between 20 and 25, reportedly lodged in a hotel for months, turning it into both a hideout and a thriving drug market.
“They use dispatch riders to move their drugs from one point to another and sell them at the hotel too,” Edafe stated in a post on X.
According to him, the riders easily escape suspicion because they are often given free passage in traffic.
Among those arrested was Mr Kingsley Eze, caught with cannabis worth N15,000. Another suspect, Ramadan, confessed he was given the drugs by his madam, who promised him an undisclosed cut from the sales.
Also in the dragnet was Queen Chukwu, 21, who police said handed cannabis worth N500,000 to one of the riders. She is believed to have been in the business for a while.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
