The South African Consulate in Lagos, together with Afroflavour, will celebrate South African Heritage Day 2025 in Nigeria on September 20 at the Federal Palace Hotel Gardens, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The festival will bring Nigerians and South Africans together to enjoy culture, food, fashion, art, and music. The event runs from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Tickets are already on sale at www.naija.events for ₦10,000 (general admission) and ₦50,000 (VIP).

Guests will experience a wide range of activities. There will be a Cape Town experience with Afroflavour passports, a Pan-African culture market with food, jewellery, and crafts, as well as dishes like bobotie, bunny chow, and Cape Malay curry served alongside Nigerian meals. Visitors can also take photos at Shaka Zulu’s symbolic throne. Fashion will take centre stage in the Afroliganza Fashion Procession, showcasing South African styles along with Yoruba, Urhobo, Hausa, and Igbo outfits.

A Creators Lab will host talks on culture, food, and Africa’s future, while six countries—South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Morocco, and Zimbabwe—will compete in the first-ever African tripe cook-off.

Sebo Lenyai of the South African Consulate said the partnership reflects the strong ties between Nigeria and South Africa, stressing that both nations share more that unites them than divides them. Afroflavour founder Lucky Idike Jr. added that what began as a dream to promote African cuisine has become a global mission to use food as a driver of trade, culture, and economic growth.
