Two men bag 10 years imprisonment for possession of firearms in Osun

Two men identified as Oriyomi Fawumi, 25, and Ekpeyong Edet, 44, has been sentenced to 10 years in the Correctional Centre for unlawful possession of firearms by Osun High Court sitting in Ile -Ife.
The prosecution led by Chief State Counsel, Olabisi Babatunde, contended that the defendants committed the offences on Jan. 22, 2022, at 10:15p.m. at Ilesa Kenani Area, Ile-Ife.
The defendants were represented by Mrs Comfort Eyiolawi during trial.
According to the prosecution, the offence of unlawful possession of firearms contravened section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms(Special Provisions), Act, Cap., R.11,Vol.11, Laws of Federation, 2004.
It also said that the offence of conspiracy to commit armed robbery was contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 24, R.11, Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.
Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Adedapo Adeniji, said that the prosecution had proved its case against the defendants beyond reasonable doubt.
He consequently found both men guilty of the offences of unlawful possession of firearms and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Adeniji sentenced each of the convicts to 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
