He, however, clarified that he was not seeking elective office at the moment. “A time will come when I will return to politics, but for now, I prefer to play an advisory role. I remain committed to supporting Somolu in my personal capacity.”
Grassroots leaders in Somolu Local Government have lauded the enduring impact of Lai Omotola, Convener of the Pro-Nigeria Group and former chairmanship aspirant, describing him as a selfless leader whose influence continues to shape the community.
The commendation came during a courtesy visit by members of the Somolu Legislative Council, led by Council Leader Tunde James Oyeyiola, who said the visit was to formally recognise Omotola’s philanthropic efforts and unwavering support for residents, despite not holding elective office.
Oyeyiola praised Omotola as “a blessing to Somolu,” noting that his contributions to community development date back to his 2009 chairmanship bid under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Leadership is not about position but service. Despite not securing the ticket, Omotola has touched lives, restored hope, and demonstrated genuine commitment to the people. His light must never go dim. Even without holding office, Somolu still feels his presence, and we would love to see him return to politics,” Oyeyiola said.
In his response, Omotola expressed appreciation for the recognition, calling it a rare honour that validated his past sacrifices.
“Many no longer recall that I contested the chairmanship in 2009 because my campaign materials were lost over time. This gesture shows that my efforts were not in vain,” Omotola said.

He, however, clarified that he was not seeking elective office at the moment. “A time will come when I will return to politics, but for now, I prefer to play an advisory role. I remain committed to supporting Somolu in my personal capacity.”
Also speaking, Oluwatosin Odubanjo, councillor representing Onipan Ward A and chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Sports and Rural Development, described Omotola as a mentor and household name in Somolu politics.
Odubanjo recalled being inspired by Omotola’s political journey two decades ago.
“In 2003, when he contested as councillor, I served as his ward coordinator. Though the party leadership favoured another candidate, that contest brought him into the limelight, and since then, residents have yearned for his return. He is generous, selfless, and empathetic towards the poor, and today he has reaffirmed his commitment to Somolu,” Odubanjo said.
