Nollywood actress and producer, Debbie Shokoya, has opened up about her decision to embrace Islam after her marriage, despite being born into a Christian family.
In a message shared on her Instagram page, the actress explained that her choice was deeply personal and centered on her relationship with God.
She emphasized that religion should not be seen as a battleground for competition, conflict, or debate but as a way of life rooted in peace, love, and compassion.
“Christianity by birth, Muslim by marriage over here… God is love! Humanity always,” she wrote. “I have never been a discriminator of any religion. My relationship with God is what matters most, and how I treat my fellow human.”
Shokoya stressed that humanity comes first above all else, regardless of religion, tribe, or background. She further explained that her approach to worship is based on personal comfort and a direct connection with God.
“It’s not a war, it’s not a competition, neither is it a debate. Preach love and act in love first. No matter the religion, no matter the color, no matter the tribe! Love comes first because God is love,” she added.
