Liverpool snatched a dramatic 1-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday, with Mohamed Salah converting a stoppage-time penalty to maintain the Reds’ flawless start to the Premier League season.

The match was anything but straightforward for Arne Slot’s side. From the outset, Burnley set up compact and resilient, frustrating Liverpool’s attacking trio and limiting clear chances.

Despite dominating possession, the visitors struggled to break down a determined Clarets defence marshalled with discipline and energy.

As the clock ticked on, frustration grew for Liverpool. Burnley had moments of their own on the counter, forcing the Reds to remain alert.

The tension escalated in the 84th minute when Burnley’s Lesley Ugochukwu received a second yellow card, reducing the hosts to ten men. Still, Liverpool looked set to drop points for the first time this season.

The breakthrough arrived in dramatic fashion deep into stoppage time. Substitute Hannibal Mejbri was penalised for handling the ball inside the area, gifting Liverpool a lifeline.

Salah, who had endured a quiet evening by his high standards, stepped up confidently to send goalkeeper James Trafford the wrong way in the 95th minute.

The goal sparked wild celebrations among the travelling supporters, while Burnley were left heartbroken after a spirited defensive display that had nearly earned them a famous point.

Speaking after the game, Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted his side were below their best but praised their persistence: “It wasn’t a perfect performance, but the players kept pushing until the end. That determination is what got us the result.”

The victory keeps Liverpool’s 100 percent league record intact, underlining their title credentials.
