Canelo is a great champion. I respect him a lot. He fought like a true champion tonight,” he told Netflix reporters.

American boxer Terence Crawford shocked the world on Sunday morning by defeating Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Álvarez at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, USA.

Crawford won the fight by unanimous decision after 12 tough rounds. The judges scored it 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113 in his favour.

The 37-year-old Crawford (42 wins, no losses) moved up two weight divisions to challenge Canelo (63 wins, 3 losses, 2 draws). With this victory, he became the first male boxer in history to be undisputed champion in three different weight classes — light-welterweight, welterweight, and now super-middleweight.

Crawford controlled most of the fight, especially the first seven rounds, before Canelo started to fight back strongly in the later stages.

After the match, Crawford praised Canelo:

“Canelo is a great champion. I respect him a lot. He fought like a true champion tonight,” he told Netflix reporters.

When asked about his future, Crawford said:

“I don’t know yet. I’ll sit with my team and decide. For now, I just want to thank my supporters and even my critics. I appreciate everyone.”

Canelo, speaking after the fight, showed humility in defeat.

“I’m proud of myself. There is no shame here. I always take risks, and that’s why I fight the best,” he said.

He also suggested a rematch could happen:

“If we do it again, it will be great. I’ve already achieved a lot in boxing, and my legacy is there. Crawford is a great fighter, and I respect him.
