Why I benched Isak against Burnley – Arne Slot

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has explained why Alexander Isak was left out of the squad for today’s Premier League clash against Burnley.

Slot said the decision was deliberate, insisting it was better to give the striker a full week of training than throwing him in for just a few minutes.

“We’ve decided it’s best for him to have a proper week of training instead of every time going for 5 or 10 minutes of playing,” the manager said.

He, however, assured fans that Isak will return to action midweek.

“I can assure the fans that he will be involved on Wednesday! This game came a bit too early,” Slot added.

Meanwhile, Liverpool left it late at Turf Moor with Mohamed Salah burying a stoppage-time penalty to seal a 1-0 win and keep their perfect Premier League record intact.

It was no easy ride for Arne Slot’s men, as Burnley’s stubborn setup choked space, frustrated the Reds’ frontline, and kept chances to a minimum.
