FBI unveils chilling note as Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin refuses to cooperate

Tyler Robinson and Charlie Kirk

Quick Read

Federal investigators say Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of assassinating conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, left behind a disturbing note vowing to “take out” Kirk before carrying out the shooting at Utah Valley University.

Federal investigators say Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of assassinating conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, left behind a disturbing note vowing to “take out” Kirk before carrying out the shooting at Utah Valley University.

FBI Director Kash Patel revealed on Monday that forensic evidence confirmed the existence of the note, which investigators recovered from Robinson’s partner’s home.

“I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it,” the note read, according to Patel.

Patel said the note had been destroyed but was reconstructed through forensic methods and corroborated during FBI interviews. He did not clarify whether it was handwritten or digital.

Robinson was arrested Friday after being persuaded to surrender by his father. He has since refused to cooperate with investigators, Patel confirmed.

Authorities also said Robinson’s DNA was found both at the sniper’s firing position and on the towel used to cover the rifle later abandoned in nearby woods.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox added that evidence suggests Robinson may have been radicalized online. Investigators found engravings on bullet casings and incriminating messages on Discord, where Robinson appeared to joke with friends about resembling Kirk’s shooter before later admitting it was him.

“Those conversations definitely were happening,” Cox told ABC News. “At first they thought it was a joke, until he confirmed it.”

Suspect’s Background

According to Cox, Robinson’s roommate—described as a transitioning romantic partner—has been fully cooperative and unaware of the planned attack.

Friends and family told investigators that Robinson’s political leanings shifted sharply left in recent years, coinciding with heavy online activity in “dark corners of the internet.”

Robinson, registered as an inactive voter in Utah, had not participated in the last two general elections. His parents are listed as Republicans.

Authorities released surveillance images of the masked gunman before Robinson’s arrest, which came nearly two days later.

Investigators have since searched his family’s home in Washington, Utah, about 240 miles from the crime scene.

Governor Cox emphasized that the motive remains under investigation and more details are expected when Robinson appears in court on Tuesday.
