The Federal Government has raised fresh concerns over possible flooding in Lagos, Adamawa, and 12 other states between September 16 and 18.

The warning was issued in a flood prediction released Tuesday by the National Flood Early Warning Centre of the Federal Ministry of Environment. The statement, signed by the Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, listed 52 communities across 14 states as high-risk areas.

States on the watchlist include Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Adamawa, Cross River, Bayelsa, Delta, Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, Rivers, Imo, Sokoto, Ondo, and Lagos.

Already, Adamawa has begun to feel the impact, with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirming heavy flooding in 13 communities across Yola North and Yola South LGAs on Tuesday after a downpour that lasted from 4 a.m. to 12 noon. Rescue teams evacuated vulnerable residents, including women, children, and the elderly, to temporary shelters.

Lagos, which experienced major flooding last week that left motorists stranded on Ikorodu Road, is also on high alert.

The Federal Government has urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and cooperate with emergency agencies to avert further tragedy.
