Iranian authorities have executed a man found guilty of working as a spy for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency.
The judiciary identified him as Babak Shahbazi.
He was hanged after the Supreme Court confirmed his death sentence. Shahbazi was convicted of serious crimes, including “corruption on earth” and “waging war against God.”
Although details about his arrest were not made public, officials said Shahbazi worked on industrial cooling systems for companies connected to Iran’s military, security, and telecommunications.
His position allegedly allowed him to pass sensitive information to Mossad in exchange for money and the promise of living abroad.
This execution is part of Iran’s intensified crackdown on espionage since tensions with Israel rose in June. In August, Iran executed another man, Roozbeh Vadi, accused of leaking details about nuclear scientists and facilities.
In July, Iran’s intelligence services also announced the arrest of more than 20 alleged Mossad agents and helpers across the country.
Iran has long accused Israel of running wide-ranging spy operations inside its borders, especially targeting its nuclear and defense programs.
