The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, revealing that 60.26 percent of participants secured at least five credits, including in core subjects Mathematics and English Language.
The announcement, delivered at NECO’s headquarters, underscores a positive trend in educational outcomes while highlighting ongoing efforts to curb examination irregularities.
Registrar and Chief Executive Dantani Wushishi shared the details during a briefing, noting that 1,367,210 candidates had registered for the examination, with 1,358,339 ultimately taking part.
He said among those who sat the papers, 818,492 or 60.26 percent, met the benchmark of five credits and above in subjects that encompass Mathematics and English.
Wushishi added that broader success was even more pronounced, as 1,144,496 candidates, equivalent to 84.26 percent, attained five credits and above regardless of performance in those two subjects.
Wushishi hailed the results as a “milestone” that embodies the council’s dedication to transparency, credibility, and advancing quality education in Nigeria.
He explained that the examination also accommodated inclusivity, with 1,622 candidates facing special needs, such as hearing and visual impairments, albinism, autism, low vision, and other conditions, participating fully.
A standout aspect of this year’s exercise was the marked decline in malpractice.
Wushishi disclosed that cases plummeted by 61.58 percent, from 10,094 recorded in 2024 to just 3,878 in 2025.
Despite this progress, he said accountability remains firm as 38 schools across 13 states implicated in widespread cheating would confront sanctions.
Additionally, nine supervisors from Rivers, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano, and Osun states face blacklisting for facilitating irregularities and related offenses.
Challenges persist in certain areas, however. Results from eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area, Adamawa State, have been temporarily withheld after communal clashes interrupted the examination process.
In expressing gratitude, Wushishi acknowledged the backing of President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education, crediting their support for NECO’s reform initiatives.
He also called on tertiary institutions to exercise patience, awaiting releases from all examination bodies before concluding admission processes.
Candidates eager to view their results can do so promptly through NECO’s official portal at www.neco.gov.ng, entering their registration numbers for access.
