The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE internal) results, 54 days after the last paper. NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the results on Wednesday in Minna, Niger State.

He explained that 1,358,339 candidates sat for the exam, and out of these, 818,492 students, representing 60.26 per cent, scored five credits and above, including Mathematics and English.

A total of 1,144,496 candidates, representing 84.26 per cent, scored five credits and above irrespective of Mathematics and English.
He said 1,367,210 candidates registered for the exam, made up of 685,514 males and 681,696 females. Among them, 1,622 candidates had special needs.

These included 941 with hearing impairment and 191 with visual impairment.
Prof. Wushishi noted that 3,878 candidates were involved in examination malpractice in 2025 compared to 10,094 in 2024, showing a reduction of more than 61 per cent.

He revealed that 38 schools across 13 states were found guilty of mass cheating and will face sanctions. Nine supervisors from Rivers, Niger, FCT, Kano, and Osun states were also recommended for blacklisting over misconduct.

He also spoke about a communal clash in Lamorde Local Government, Adamawa State, which disrupted exams in eight schools and affected 13 subjects and 29 papers. He said NECO is working with the state government to re-conduct the exams for the affected schools.

On performance, Kano had the highest number of candidates with five credits including English and Mathematics with 68,159 students, followed by Lagos with 67,007, and Oyo with 48,742.

The least performing centre was Gabon, where no candidate had five credits including English and Mathematics.

Wushishi added that, in line with the reviewed curriculum, NECO will now conduct exams in only 38 subjects to reduce waiting time for results. The 2025 SSCE took place from June 16 to July 25.
