ABC announced on Wednesday that Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been suspended “indefinitely,” sparking outrage from A-list celebrities who believe the network caved to political pressure.
Ben Stiller simply wrote, “This isn’t right.” John Legend Shared a post by political writer David Frum which read: “How dare you call us fascists just because our appointees threaten government retaliation against broadcast networks if their comedians don’t say what we want them to say.”
Henry Winkler wrote on X: “@jimmykimmel his humor, his insights are important to keep showing us who we are. AND he is a most wonderful fellow.
Jamie Lee Curtis, Alison Brie and Josh Gad also joined the pushback, with Curtis even sharing a throwback quote from Kimmel saying he never believed anyone should be cancelled.
Comedian Wanda Sykes revealed she was scheduled to appear on the show but got dropped after what she described as “complaints from the Trump administration.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom blasted the move as censorship, while MSNBC host Chris Hayes called it the “most straightforward attack on free speech” he’s ever seen.
But President Donald Trump was having none of it. Taking to Truth Social, he celebrated the news, writing: “Great news for America. The ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally doing what had to be done.”
