The Ondo State Police Command has arrested and arraigned a 53-year-old man, Babawale Kolawole, on grave allegations of repeatedly raping a 16-year-old girl and facilitating the termination of her two resulting pregnancies.
The disturbing case, which has sparked outrage, unfolded at the suspect’s residence on No. 12, Okeodunwo Street, Igbado, in Ondo West Local Government Area.
DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed the details in a statement issued on Wednesday in Akure.
According to the victim’s report filed on September 13, 2025, Kolawole, identified as her uncle, subjected her to near-daily sexual assaults.
The minor further alleged that after each assault, Kolawole used a cloth to clean her private parts, and on two occasions, arranged for the termination of pregnancies resulting from the assaults.
The Gender-Based Offences Unit of the Ondo State Police Command acted swiftly upon receiving the report, apprehending Kolawole and initiating legal proceedings.
The suspect has been arraigned before a competent court and remanded in custody pending further trial, marking a critical step toward justice.
Ayanlade emphasized the command’s resolute commitment to safeguarding the rights of women and children, underscoring that perpetrators of such heinous acts will face the full force of the law.
He attributed the prompt response to the reform-driven leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, whose vision prioritizes gender-sensitive policing and robust action against sexual and gender-based violence across Nigeria.
