The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has said the company will soon start importing electric trucks.
He made this known recently when the company introduced its new trucks that run on compressed natural gas (CNG).
These trucks will be used to distribute fuel from the Dangote refinery directly to filling stations.
About 4,000 CNG trucks are expected to arrive in Nigeria before next month, and Dangote has promised that fuel distribution will not cost customers extra money.
Dangote explained that after the CNG trucks, the company’s next step is to bring in electric vehicles starting from January.
“You can’t expect me to keep using old trucks. If there is an accident, it could slow us down. We must protect our investment,” he said.
He added that safety and efficiency are the main reasons for the change.
Dangote also noted that charging facilities should not be a big problem, recalling how an Uber driver abroad told him it cost only €20 to fully charge a Tesla, which could go up to 500 kilometres on one charge.
The billionaire stressed that the world is changing, and his company must change too. “If you don’t adapt, you will become outdated. We have to keep changing,” he said.
