First photos emerge as Fubara returns to Rivers Govt House

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday stormed back to the Government House in Port Harcourt after six months in the cold.

His return comes two days after President Bola Tinubu lifted the state of emergency that had stripped him of executive powers and plunged Rivers into political limbo.

Fubara’s arrival sparked wild jubilation as supporters lined the streets, waving banners, chanting solidarity songs, and hailing what they called a “victory for democracy.”

The governor was suspended in March 2025 following a bitter face-off with lawmakers that triggered impeachment threats, budget blockades, and a total breakdown of order, forcing Tinubu’s intervention under Section 305 of the Constitution — the first emergency rule in Rivers since 1999.
