Tension rocked Glendale, Arizona after an armed man posing as law enforcement was detained at State Farm Stadium, the venue for Sunday’s memorial service of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the incident, revealing that the suspect was spotted behaving suspiciously before being confronted by agents. On interrogation, he claimed to be an officer and admitted he was armed.
A source disclosed the man carried at least one gun, a knife, and presented “inactive law enforcement credentials.” Authorities later confirmed he was not part of the official security detail for the high-profile event.
The 31-year-old Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated on September 10, and his memorial on Sunday is expected to draw a huge crowd with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance billed to speak.
The Secret Service, working with local police, said investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect’s intent and how he gained access to the venue ahead of the event.
Security around the stadium has since been tightened, with authorities warning that Sunday’s memorial will be under the strictest surveillance.
