The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, Professor Gbenga Aribisala, has announced that the university will start with four faculties.
He said the first admission of students is expected to begin in October 2025. The pioneer faculties are:
Engineering
Computer Science
Natural and Applied Sciences
Environmental Sciences
Speaking at a reception organized in his honor by the 1979 set of Ifaki Grammar School Old Students Association, Aribisala explained that the university plans to run a fully residential system.
He said, “We want to lay a strong foundation for excellence by producing disciplined graduates and leaders who can solve Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, especially unemployment. Our goal is to make FUTES the number one university in Africa.”
The Vice Chancellor stressed that the institution would focus on both character and learning. He added that job adverts for recruitment would soon be published in newspapers and on the university’s website.
Aribisala warned applicants not to fall for fraudsters, stressing that only qualified and dedicated scholars would be hired.
He revealed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had already carried out a resource verification exercise and expressed satisfaction with some of the facilities.
He added, “We are waiting for NUC to formally communicate with us and JAMB. Admission of our first set of students is expected to begin by October 2025.
”At the reception, the coordinator of the 1979 alumni set, Mr. Olajide Familoye, said they were proud of Aribisala’s appointment and confident that he would place FUTES on the world map.
The Registrar of the university, Mr. Oluwole Dada, also praised the alumni for celebrating excellence and assured that the university would meet the people’s expectations in academic quality.
Earlier in June, Aribisala had appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to support the institution, especially in the area of hostel construction.
He explained that the government alone could not meet all the needs and welcomed donations, scholarships, and investments from individuals.
President Bola Tinubu had in March appointed Senator Binta Garba as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the university’s Governing Council.
