Government, communities to finalize modalities for Ogoni oil restart

President Bola Tinubu has announced plans to restart oil production in Ogoniland, Rivers State, PM News has gathered.

He made this known on Wednesday while awarding posthumous national honours of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) to the late Ogoni Four: Albert Badey, Edward Kobani,

Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu called on the Ogoni people to embrace unity and reconciliation after years of division.

He promised that his government would support peace, environmental cleanup, and economic development in the area.

“I am encouraged by the overwhelming consensus of the Ogoni communities to welcome the resumption of oil production.

The government will deploy every resource to support your people in this march towards shared prosperity,” Tinubu said.

The president also instructed the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to engage with Ogoni communities, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and other stakeholders to finalize plans for restarting operations.

In his earlier report, Ribadu explained that the consultations covered all four Ogoni zones as well as the diaspora.
