Following the return of civilian administration, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, announced plans to investigate the state’s finances under the emergency period.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday met with the immediate past sole administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ibas, who arrived at about 5:50 pm dressed in brown native attire, was accompanied by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.

Earlier, Edun was seen entering the villa before briefly stepping out and returning with a file, indicating the importance of the meeting.

Ibas served as Rivers State administrator for six months during the period of emergency rule. His tenure ended on September 17, after President Tinubu directed the suspended Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume office.

Following the return of civilian administration, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, announced plans to investigate the state’s finances under the emergency period.

The lawmakers resolved to examine how funds from the consolidated revenue account were spent, including the award of contracts and other expenditures.

Ibas, however, has rejected the Assembly’s decision to probe financial activities during his administration.

Available records show that Rivers State received at least N254.37 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) between March and August 2025, while Ibas was in office.
