Russia feared to have attacked Spanish Defence Minister’s plane

Fresh fears are sweeping through Europe after a Spanish Air Force plane carrying Defence Minister Margarita Robles suffered a mysterious “electronic disturbance” while flying over Russian airspace.

The Airbus A330, which was headed to Lithuania on Wednesday morning, reportedly went haywire after crossing Kaliningrad — a Russian enclave sandwiched between Poland and Lithuania.

Onboard with Robles were relatives of Spanish airmen stationed in Lithuania as part of NATO’s Vilkas Mission, which recently intercepted eight Russian jets over the Baltic Sea.

Though the plane landed safely, suspicion has immediately turned to Moscow, accused of stepping up electronic warfare to test NATO’s defences.

This comes barely weeks after a jet carrying EU chief Ursula von der Leyen was forced to ditch GPS and land with paper maps in Bulgaria following what officials called “blatant Russian sabotage.”

And Europe is still rattled by Monday’s chaos in Copenhagen, when drone swarms grounded 100 flights and stranded 20,000 passengers. Danish intelligence now warns of a “high threat of sabotage,” pointing fingers at Russia.

From Lithuania to Finland, multiple governments have accused the Kremlin of GPS jamming — a Cold War-style tactic to disrupt navigation and shield Russian military assets. Moscow has denied everything.

In a quick response, Lithuania’s parliament has just passed a new law giving its military the green light to shoot down any drone violating its skies — armed or not.

NATO, on its part, says it will use “all necessary tools” to defend members, warning Moscow over its “irresponsible behaviour.”

With Russian drones crashing into Poland, jets violating Estonian skies, and GPS attacks suspected across Europe, today’s scare over Robles’ flight only deepens fears that the Kremlin is expanding its hybrid war right into NATO’s airspace.
