Werder Bremen striker Victor Boniface has been summoned by the club’s management following a string of controversial social media posts that have stirred debate in Germany
The 24-year-old Nigerian, currently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, joined Bremen during the summer transfer window, arriving with high expectations as the team’s new attacking spearhead. However, his off-field activities have now placed him under scrutiny.
According to EXPRESS News, the Bundesliga outfit is concerned over Boniface’s recent online behavior, which includes cryptic messages and personal commentary that have unsettled the club’s leadership.
“Boniface has caused real trouble at Werder Bremen. The reason is strange social media posts. Now the striker has to report to the bosses,” the outlet reported.
Among the posts attracting attention was a Snapchat photo showing a damaged side mirror of his car, followed by a cryptic caption. More significantly, he posted an Instagram message offering life advice that quickly went viral.
“If you waste your money on too many women, you will not achieve anything in life. Find yourself one or two women and settle down. At most three women, or if you are going through a lot, four is also okay,” he wrote.
While many Nigerian fans familiar with Boniface’s humor saw the post as lighthearted, it did not translate well in his new environment. Reports indicate that Werder Bremen’s management struggled to interpret the tone and intent of the post, prompting internal discussions.
German outlet BILD, quoting EXPRESS, confirmed that the club has not issued a public statement but is treating the matter seriously. Boniface has reportedly been invited for a closed-door meeting with the club’s hierarchy.
The post also caught the attention of international celebrities. Canadian rapper Drake responded with a laughing emoji, to which Boniface replied playfully:
“Bro, dm for more advice.”
Boniface has not shied away from online confrontations either. After a social media user accused him of unprofessionalism and derailing his career, the striker clapped back by mocking her appearance, particularly her wig.
Boniface has previously battled injury setbacks, including a failed medical at AC Milan due to recurring knee problems. Nevertheless, his move to Bremen signaled a new chapter in his career.
As Bremen prepares for their crucial Bundesliga fixture against Bayern Munich, all eyes will be on Boniface both for his contributions on the field and how he manages his growing reputation off it.
