All is set for the coronation of High Chief Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, scheduled to take place on Friday.

This follows the official approval of the date by the  Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde. The approval came after the  completion of all traditional rites and consultations.

This historic occasion is unique as it marks wthe ascension of the former governor of Oyo State to the revered throne of Ibadan, one of the oldest and most respected traditional institutions in Nigeria.

Ibadan is already agog  for the elaborate ceremony that will place at Mapo Hall, Ibadan. Dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond are expected to grace the occasion, including top government officials, traditional rulers, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Rasidi Ladoja, a respected statesman and businessman, is ascending the throne following the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun, the 43rd Olubadan, who died earlier in 2025. Ladoja has successfully risen through the traditional chieftaincy ranks, having previously served as Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, and his coronation is widely regarded as a unifying moment for the people of Ibadan.

The Olubadan stool is known to operate under a unique and well-structured succession system, which sees high chiefs from both the civil and military lines ascend to the throne in a rotational manner. Ladoja’s emergence follows due process and has been widely embraced by stakeholders within the traditional institution.

Security measures will of course be heightened during the coronation, and the government has assured residents and guests of a peaceful and well-organised event.

The coronation of Oba Ladoja not only symbolises the continuity of Ibadan’s royal heritage but also the preservation of its rich cultural legacy.
