Nollywood actor Michael Ejoor has shared an emotional story about his struggle with depression and how he survived multiple suicide attempts.
Speaking on the Jay On Air podcast, Ejoor revealed that he had been diagnosed with clinical depression 14 years ago and had once tried to end his life on different occasions, including a terrifying moment in the UK when he walked into the path of a moving car.
The actor admitted that growing up, he felt unloved and isolated, even believing at one point that his own father hated him. “I didn’t think anybody liked me. I didn’t think anything was going well for me,” he said.
Despite appearing on screen and working in Nollywood, he explained that he struggled silently, describing himself as a “terrible child” who never felt he was receiving enough recognition or support.
Ejoor also shared how depression made him lose hope for the future. “The worst question you could ask me was my five-year goal. I didn’t even want to be alive tomorrow,” he revealed.
Although he initially ran away from his diagnosis, he eventually decided to share his story publicly after encouragement from a friend.
According to him, the outpouring of love and support from fans and colleagues made him realize that speaking out could inspire others facing similar struggles.
